The ones I think are best are:

Candy Matson
The Fat Man - Jack Scott Smart in the title roll
Nightbeat
Casey, Crime Photographer
The Adventures of Philip Marlowe
Sam Spade
Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar (just the ones that were 15 minutes a day with Bob Bailey - the early episodes are mediocre)
X Minus 1
Dimension X
Box 13 (which you mentioned you liked)
While Dragnet is good (there are almost 300 episodes) the Jack Webb to check out is his early stuff - Johnny Madero Pier 23, Pat Novak for Hire, and Jeff Regan Private Investigator. Pete Kelley Blues is a little different - either your taste or not.
Nero Wolfe
The Avengers
Rocky Jordan

If you finish all those, Harry Lime (The Third Man) and Richard Diamond are worth checking out as well.

Do you know of any other sites I can easily download Night Beat? The episodes on the Archive don't jive with my player, which is really too bad, as I was really getting into it.

I've never tried Fat Man, Nightbeat or the Avengers. Is that the BBC Avengers or something else altogether? I always liked the premise of Casey. I like Jack Webb (who doesnt?) and have listened to Pat Novak and Jeff Regan (that's the "Lion's Eye", right?). I'll have to try those others. Since the original posting, I've given Harry Lime another shot and it really grew on me. Thanks!

The Fat Man is here:

There was also a South African version - not as good as the American show, although still pretty decent. But nothing can top the way J. Scott Smart said "murder" at the start of the American version. Just a terrific show - one of the ones with lots and lots of lost episodes. . . . **sniff**

Nightbeat is set in Chicago - good atmosphere and city detail. The main character, Randy Stone played by Frank Lovejoy, is likeable, there are good "twist endings" to some of the story. Very solid writing in general on this one:

Nightbeat sounds especially interesting and I've never heard of that one.

The Avengers I am talking about is brought to you by Cold Water Omo (a detergent).

It is a South African radio show from the early 70s, based on the 1960s TV show. The radio version features Emma Peal and John Steed.

I bought my copies of the show, but they are available on the net:

There is a fan site, here:

I have a 'complete' collection of The Shadow, and many other older OTR programs. I aslo have Seeing Ear Theater by SyFy cahnnel, and Nightfall, and excellent series from the '80s/'90s, and much more. If you e-mail me, I will send you a link to my SkyDrive files so you can download at will.

I would be interested in the Shadow collection. There used to be a good collection here, but it appears to be removed.

Thank you.
